belgium, land of chocolate, waffles, chips and beer.

so after germany, i went back to london, stayed with div in south ken, was going to spend new years in london before going to belgium on the 2nd. did a spot of shopping in the post-christmas sales [read: shopped for hours, every day]. i bought a white winter jacket, it's a double-breasted snow white jacket with big white buttons! i love it! and i also picked up a slim satiny dress with a chinese collar for 15pounds, yay! and i nipped into muji and got an interesting handbag. it's rectangular and covered in kind of a rough fleecy material. AND, i popped into sisley thinking, 'won't be anything there, i'll just have a quick look', and emerged half an hour later with an orange long-sleeved t-shirt- bargain for 8.50 pounds, and a gorgeous soft merino wool and cashmere blend cardigan in light blue which is so warm and baby soft and which i love as well!

...... wait, what was i talking about again?

oh right. new years was good, spent it in the local pub with nottingham friends, instead of braving the crowds at the fireworks. the area we were staying in is a neighbourhood for middle-aged ppl, so in the local pub there were middle-aged ppl, underage kids, and us. it was interesting.

belgium! the land of chocolate, waffles, chips, mussels and beer. check, check, check, no check for mussels, and check.

i had waffles with:
-nutella. so good. melty, warm nutella, oozing over the edge of the waffle. it was messy to eat standing in the town square in brussels, but it was SO GOOD. spesh since it was freezing. SO GOOD.
- ice cream. eaten in a more civilized manner, in a restaurant with fork and knife. was good. brussels waffle is lighter and crispier than liege version. vanilla with choc flakes.. stracciatella? or something like that?
-butter and sugar. plain, simple, but very satisfying, melty butter mixed with powdery sugar, savoury!!!!
- caramel. sweet and sticky. mmm....
- banana and choc. this was amazing. on par with nutella. the chocolate wasn't any of that hershey's choc sauce-from-a-bottle crap, but was pure melted belgian chocolate. SO GOOD... so very very very good. amazing. AMAZING!!! so simple, yet so good.....

also, had really good chips in brugge and brussels, served hot and crispy with tartare sauce!

we had chocolate. whether from a chocolatier, or from the supermarket, uniformly creamy and good.

beer. i don't like beer, generally. but belgium has fruit beer, which is much more suited to my taste. me and vicki went to this place in brussels which served over 2000 types of beer. i stuck to belgian beers, and over the trip, tried cherry, raspberry, peach, honey and strawberry. tasty! my fave was the strawberry, it was like a mix between beer and a strawberry daquiri [tastes better than it sounds?].

we came back to england laden with chocolates, butter waffles to consume and give to friends. can u blame us?
