we went to ypres for an afternoon, got stuck in a random small belgian town for an hour cuz apparently the bus to ypres only comes every 2 hours. who knew?! but we got there in the end. ypres was a major battlefield during WW1, over 500 000 soldiers died there. the museum- in flander's field museum- was excellent. there was a memorial there as well, a massive arch to commemorate those who died but didn't get a proper burial, we stayed for the 'last post', where every night bugles are played to commemorate them.
