of taking it up the.....

one phrase popped up twice in two days, which i thought was interesting, given that it was in reference to two different mediums and in two very different contexts. let me explain. last night, i went to watch a play called 'the retirement of tom stevens'. it was playing at the lakeside theatre, on campus. it was an awesome opportunity to catch it yesterday, cuz it was 'pay what you can night', so tickets were a pound each and u could put in extra money in a bucket on the counter if u so wished. bargain!
so we trooped off to watch this play, and it was really good- it was about events that unfolded over 3 days at christmas, when a father and his two sons, one a successful sports journalist, the other a manager of a chain of department stores- gather for christmas. gradually, as the play went on, things are revealed to the audience- family secrets, the conflicted relationships between the different members of the family... it was really well done, really well acted. but, and this is the main point here, the most memorable line in the play was...
"you like them clean as well as dirty, don't ya?! clever AND uncomplicated? the next girl u meet u can just f*** her up the arse and then give her a spelling test!!"
and in case you're interested, the final line of that extract was, ".... and if she passes with flying colours then u KNOW she's the one!!!"
it may sound a bit crude, but hey, in the play, it was really funny. the audience just cracked up. it's all about context. such were the impact of those words that, several intense moments of the play later- one sex scene between family members, two confrontations, one unfortunate bit where the father was talking about how he and his wife had the best sex of her life on a persian carpet TO HIS SON, and one death later, that was the phrase which we left the theatre with, still ringing in our ears.
and today, in an entirely different context and situation, that phrase came up again. we were in a seminar group, discussing a novel that we had to read for class, and in reference to one of the scenes in the novel, one girl spoke up and uttered these immortal words....
"well, when u're an 11-year old [boy] and just splashing around with your mate, you don't expect him to come and f*** u up the arse, do u?"
and with that, we took a coffee break.

Actually, that line brought a smile to my face. If you haven't yet, go watch Matchpoint. Yes, there is a vague relevance to that line, but there you go.
At any rate, at the end of your little rant, I'm not too sure that I followed your point right through... Unless it was merely meant to be information...?
And by the by, I really LURVE that picture. Did you do it yourself? Is that what your wallpaper in your room looks like? Perhaps you should post a picture of your room's wallpaper?
uh, no. it was the publicity shot for the play i was talking about.
and as for my point... no there was no point, no great defining conclusion. hello, this is a blog. blog are by definition for whiny self-obsessed people who fill it up with trivial and unimportant information about their lives that no one really wants to know.
except for me, of course, my blog positively scintillates with witticisms and provides hours of entertainment for people dazzled by my intellectual prowess and incredible powers of conversation.
right? right?
oh and my room doesn't have wallpaper. it was 3 yellow walls and one green one.
it isn't generally a very good combination.
Yes regine, you are right. Scintillating wit that has cut me to shreds, and left me bleeding to death. Such is the power of your blog. :P
Perhaps you should post a picture of your walls anyway. I can then use it as an example of bad colour coordination in my next address to the committee of bad wall-papering.
it's not even wallpaper, it's just painted.
they painted the walls yellow, and then went, 'hey, i've watched all those DIY renovation shows on tv, i'll put in a feature wall... let's paint it green!!'
but i will put up a photo of my noticeboard for u!
my walls are decorated very tastefully with black and white photos of stars from bygone eras... and maps of nottingham, and random posters and postcards...
