now i get what the canadians are on about...

i went to my first ice hockey game yesterday. it was awesome!! it's so exciting- there's always something happening, it's so fast, and there's violence!!! it was the varsity game- notts uni vs. trent, the other uni in nottingham. when the loud music came on- lots of bass- and all the players skated out on the ice and circled the ring, i got little chills up and down my spine. the game gets the adrenlin going, as they skated around and did cool hocky stops and quick sudden turns and slammed each other onto the walls... it was AWESOME!!!!!!

AND.... during the interval, they had the UNDER-10s PEE WEE ICE HOCKEY EXHIBITION GAME!!!! i swear i have never seen anything as cute as the under-10s pee wee ice hockey exhibition game. they all skated out, little mini ice hockey players, with the jerseys and the helmets and the little sticks and everything!! they played a 7 minute game. there was one who was so little, he must have been about 5. he was smaller than all the others in the rink, but then he tripped up this other player and got sent off the rink. it was really cute!! they were so adorable, one scored a goal, and everyone went, 'yay!!!!!' and positively melted. SO CUTE!!

notts uni lost, but it went to a penalty shootout and that was really exciting. i swear, my heart was thumping like crazy in the last few minutes of the game, and the crowd was really rooting for the teams. my favourite chant was the notts chant to the trent side, 'STAND UP IF U KNOW WHO YOUR FATHER IS', and everyone on our side of the stadium stood up and chanted that at trent. it was funny. hockey players falling over was funny too. and hockey players who get sent to the box. i love that. it's like being sent to the corner to think about what u've done.

awesome game. i need to go to canada to see a professional one. lisi said that the matches always have players taking off their helmets and and trying to bash each other. always. AWESOME!!!!!!!
