too exciting to be true!

it's a big weekend for melbourne. the G20 is in town, chief finance ministers and central bank governors of the world's top 20 economies, accounting for 85 per cent of global output and two-thirds of the world's people, meeting at the grand hyatt for discussions, a venerable powerhouse of government financial power. besides peter costello, there is also paul wolfowitz, ex-bush admin neo-con, now head of the world bank, the central bankers of china, the US, the european central bank... on the agenda is climate change- finding a market solution to a very big problem.

and of course, with the G20, there are expected to be 10 000 protesters today- a diverse group of anti-globalisation movements, make poverty history, a christian collective..... and a 'make poverty history' concert, with jon butler trio and jet performing. U2's bono might make an appearance, as he's in town on tour. plus U2's concert on sunday, woohoo!!! with kanye west. pearl jam is also apparently here on tour, and might make an appearance at the concert too.

in other news, tom cruise and katie holmes are getting married in rome, friends are finishing their exams today- congrats, vicki- i am going to work in sofitel, and i still have a final philosophy exam next week.

could just me and my degree, but the heady mix of both my degrees, both my majors- finance and politics- colliding together, with rock stars thrown into the mix- is tremendously exciting- finance ministers, financial markets and political movements, celebrity endorsement................ can u blame me for being extremely interested, bordering on manic excitement?!?!??!

It will be interesting to see what gets said & what actually gets done.
Though often more deceit is shown from these 'save the world' organisations - eg. the 'Make Poverty History' wristbands actually being made by sweatshop labour in China.. or Bono's RED (ending aids in Africa, though sponsored by sweatshop labour).
Capitalism isn't all bad though..
