bubblin' dublin.
back from dublin!
left on wed, came back today, it's great, living in europe means u can do shit like that. pop over to dublin for a few days, miss 4 hours of class in your first week of second semester. doesn't sound like much until u realise that i only have 7 hours of class a week. and one of my classes wasn't running this week. so basically i attended one lecture, skipped the rest and went to dublin.
it was fun, we bought mint green 'i love irish boys' tshirts and wore them to our musical pub crawl, and ended up at a club playing- wait for it- 'nostalgic 70s, 80s and 90s' music. damnit, we didn't know, it was fun and i am not ashamed!!! since there were 4 of us wearing the t-shirts- two hot aussies named vicki and laura, a hot dutch-canadian-but-living-in-tanzania-but-might-move-to-india-or-somewhere-else gal called elisah, and one small malaysian-chinese girl- we stood out and instead of looking sad and tacky we looked cool and glamourous....... i think. the dj gave us a shout-out over the sound system 'hello to those girls wearing the 'i love irish boys' t-shirts!' we were so excited.
until he went,'...... they're american.'
us. incredulous. 'WE ARE NOT AMERICAN!!!'
a combination of the t-shirts and the 'nostalgic music' led to exchanges like this:
irish man: 'i love this song! do u remember it? it came out in 1987 and i absolutely loved it!!'
laura: 'uh..... we were 2 yrs old.'
irish man: '....... oh.'
so if u want to start conversations in an irish club, i recommend wearing 'i love irish boys' t-shirts. u'll end up talking to more people than u ever thought u would.
but it was all good. the next day we went on a tour to county wicklow, which was really nice, and we stopped at a pub which served really good guiness beef stew. it was so tasty. then me and lisi got apple pie with vanilla ice cream. that was also really, really good. at night we went on a backpacker's pub crawl, we went to a couple of pubs, then to this amazing french cafe bar place called cafe en seine. it had beautiful art noveau style fittings, and potted palm trees scattered around. 7 bars over 3 floors, 15 million pounds spent on it- the owner's pride and joy, his baby. it's upmarket, the abode of the beautiful people... and us poor students coming to gawk at the place. drinks were expensive, but it was such an amazing-looking place that, really, it was so worth it to go. we ended up at a place, called, of all things, 'down under', where we danced very energetically- trust me, i KNOW, cuz laura video'ed us, then me and lisi went to burger king and scarfed down some burgers. a random irish guy came and sat down next to us and talked to us about roald dahl.
only one thing to say to that. 'but why??!?!?!'
