amsterdam!
30 hours to get there and back. 47 hours in amsterdam. 67 people. 110 euros spent. not a whole lot of sleep. one heineken brewery, one anne frank house, one pancake bakery and one van gogh museum, one bar crawl, one excellent falafel, a lot of canals, numerous bridges and some very very chilly weather.
it was such a stupidly short trip- effectively we had a day and a half, but it was interesting. the fact that we were in amsterdam made it interesting. because, amsterdam, as we all know, has 'coffee shops', throw a double-decker bus full of uni kids into the mix, and the predictable happens. most people who went got high, tried hash in some way or form- joints, spacecakes, hash brownies, milkshakes, etc. i didn't, so i must have been one of the few who wasn't, at some stage, on drugs.
the heineken brewery was really innovative and good fun, anne frank's house was really really good- a definite must for any visitor to amsterdam, i had a bacon and apple pancake at the pancake bakery, ambled around amsterdam and then hightailed it to the van gogh museum. i had an excellent yummy super-duper delicious falafel in pita bread with salad and tahini for dinner and sat night, i wanted to buy one to take on the bus on sunday but they weren't open until 11am, the bastards!!!!! that was the time we were leaving amsterdam. NOOOOOO!!!! but i bought earrings instead, they were 3 euro and pretty!
amsterdam deserved at least another day...
as for the 15 hour coach ride back... all i can say is this. the sweet sweet smell of 67 unwashed college kids.
